Construction Day 6

Decided to buy the necessary 6mm 8mm and 10mm taps and a 10mm die so that the construction can proceed. I have used my Ebay supplier who has been very good in the past but whether they will be here for the weekend I do not know. So at 01:58 it is time to go to bed.

The trip to Staplehurst to Maidstone Engineering / Maxitrak to buy more material for the truck construction was successful.

It was a nice break at Mote Park and the general maintenance of the rail track has now reached the half way stage.

So what did I achieve in the afternoon / early evening.

All the axles have now been prepared except for final check in the over all length which is critical as it is used to space the side frame !!

The blanks which will be used on the spacer bar to mount the wheels

The spacer bar is 20mm OD so I have used a 19mm drill and then the spacers can be machined down by 1mm in diameter to ensure correct overall spacing of the wheels.

All the spacer mounting blanks now drilled.

These are the eight spacer tubes. Don't worry about the slight rust it will all be cleared off before the items are painted !!!

In this photo the spacer tube have been :-

Machined to a dead length of 135mm

The spacer tube was reduced down on each end to a nice interference fit to the spacer wheel support and all 8 are now needing to be drilled with 3 holes to attach the wheels and then the wheel support needs to be tack welded in three places onto the tube.

Day finished at 22:00 hrs
