Construction Day 19

Afternoon start to day

The previous idea of using a taped hole and 4BA bolt end did not seems satisfactory so I have decided that a milled slot 1/8" wide and about 1mm deep will do the trick nicely.

Here you can see how well it all fits together.

Completed bogie without brakes but ready to be attached to the framework

The truck in its initial finished form. I say initial as there are still the side pieces to be riveted on, the hooks to have springs of the right size bought and fitted, then of course is the cosmetic part.

But the unit is ready to use for the critical foot rest measurements on Wednesday at mote park.

The old version and the new version of the pillar drill stand. The need to extend the stand is due to the fact that at the old height the truck side would not pass under the drill and drill bit so would have meant that all the side rivet holes would have needed to be drill by a hand held drill ..Not a good idea with so many holes to drill.

The base will now be securely fixed to a bench and facilities made to be able to clamp / move the truck easily underneath so that the drill can be safely accomplished.

The new drill stand bar needed to be turned down at one end by 2mm and it only just fitted in the lathe !!!!

You can see that the tail stock is off the end of the lathe bed so things were a little dodgy to say the least. Very gentle cuts were taken and all achieved safely - as you saw above..
