Construction Day 3

There is a vast build up of iron cutting when doing the job of cutting the wheel blanks and I had noticed that when ever I applied coolant/lubricant that there was a "bonk" sound. I detected that in fact the sound was caused by the cutting swarf being taken through to the bandsaw driving wheel and being crushed between blade and wheel.

A simple solution was to put a timber fence which then stopped most of the cutting swarf getting through and no noise.

So far today, 11:00 hrs, I have cut 2 1/2 blanks so only another 5 1/2 to go so, to complete all the blanks for both trucks, which should have them all completed today.

But now it is off to the Engineering club to cast some lead!!!

Well the lead did not get cast but I learned a great deal about riveting where by the rivet must be cut off almost flush with the inner flat surface where previously the hole through which the rivet pokes will have been very lightly counter sunk by using a twist drill in a hand grip and merely turning it round a couple of time to make the small counter sink.

I now understand that the rivet is not intended to stop the plate joined from pulling apart but from sheering!

Still by the end of the day 14 of the 18 wheel blanks were complete and it look as is there should be sufficient material to make four more wheel for a small 4 wheeled truck!!!!
