The kit of castings

The parcel as seen on the right arrived as planned on Wednesday 29th September weighing in at about 28kgs.

The comment from my wife was "that is a very heavy parcel".

In the parcel, as shown below, was a carefully wrapped manual.

The manual was sealed with a sticker warning "These drawings allow the original purchaser to build one model. Drawings may not be sold copied or stored in any format".

A glace through shows a great deal of detail and several pages on the ignition system, a section on Assembly drawings but no detailed instructions as to how to assemble the engine or order of assembly, a section on DETAILED DRAWINGS.

Having built the engine part by part the assembly would have been much easier if a set of instructions which would have given to order of assembly would have been very helpful..

The next layer down revealed two aluminium castings a billet of caste iron and a billet of aluminium and a caste iron casting.

Lower down were the two fly wheels

When they were all removed from the box there was still some un wrapping see below.
Inside the larger casting were the following:-
  • Three piston rings (an extra to the casting order)
  • An NGK CM-6 10mm spark plug (an extra to the casting order)
  • The upper bearing brackets
  • A Brass Rocket casting
Inside the smaller casting were the set of gears (an extra to the casting order) but note the small gear do not have a centre hole drilled and the largest gear is much thicker than the drawings suggest it should be..
Of course this is not all the parts required to make the engine but are those in the casting set the remainder will be made from standard stock materials.

The next stage is to carefully look at all the drawings and decide where to start the construction.

According to the paperwork there are 90 separate and different parts but some parts have as many as 17 similar parts for instance washers and nuts.
