The fitting of the crank and main bearings.
Photo show the final touches to the tapping of the main bearing for their
oil caps. These must be tapper right through and the oil cup made to fully
engage into the bearing to prevent any rotation in the Aluminium castings
parts.
Before fitting the main bearings make
sure that any burrs have been removed.
When fitting the bearings to the crank
make sure there is oil on the inside and not on the outside.
Ensure that the bearing cap is a nice
fit, that bearings are the right way round and that the crank can
rotate.
Place a washer under on each stud and
put on the M6 nuts and tighten down evenly.
The crank shaft should be found to be
free to rotate. if this is not the case investigate fully and remedy.
Locknut down by tightening the top spanner
on the top nut against the lower spanner on the lower nut.
Place the large spacers on the gear side
of the engine followed by the gear which is locked into place by a small
piece of key way. |
