Day 19-- Steam Test Day

This is what you want to know ...

It Passed the Steam test which is :-

A check that the loco pressure gauge reads correctly.

A check on the boiler when cold

A check that the sight glasses blow down do operate

A check that the hand pumps operates

A check that the axle pipe operates

A check that the injector operates

a check that with a good fire in the hearth and the blower full on that the safety6 valves do not allow pressure to raise more than 10%

With all the above passed the Steam Certificate shown left was issued.

For security reasons only part of the certificate is shown.

The loco at the start of the proceed to do the steam test.
The loco with the first coal going in to the hearth

The loco with one of the boiler testers Dave standing behind after he had approved the test.

When about to run it was found that the connection from the loco to the truck was well out of line !!!!  A simple nut and bolt saved the day !!!

A new connecting hook will be made for next time out

Happy engineers who are about to test run the loco after 10 years of absence from the track.

Result:

The loco made it round but with very little fire left - DRIVER ERROR!

The loco easily pulled both myself and Paul as passenger. total all up load say 40 stones !!!!

The Injector does work fully just does not need much water flow

The axle pump works well but does need to have the bypass valve cracked open.

The hand emergency pump works well.

The coal we used was wet and too small - next time a trial of the club's coal will be given .

So that now concluded the re-building of Baudot. It is hoped that she will run regularly at the MMES track in Mote Park Maidstone
