| Years ago I saw an article
by Bill Van Brocklin, where it originated I do not recall so I
am not claiming any originality but just my variation on the
design for use with my 5" Sweet Pea Loco.
From the original drawing I deduced that starting with the exit hole the ball had to be 50% bigger than the hole and the chamber had to be 50% bigger than the ball. So with an exit hole of 2mm the ball needed to be 3mm (1/8") and the chamber 4.6mm or 3/16". 3/16" hole is the right diameter for a 7/32" x 40 ME tap. So my design began with the drawing below !! I will try to add an engineering drawing in due coure.
 To ensure that the hole into which the ball will sit is round I have been advised to use a suitable sized reamer so I am purchasing a 2mm reamer. |
